Town Hall Seattle: Civics Series

The Civics series at Town Hall shines a light on the shifting issues, movements, and policies, that affect our society, both locally and globally. These events pose questions and ideas, big and small, that have the power to inform and impact our lives. Whether it be constitutional research from a scholar, a new take on history, or the birth of a movement, it's all about educating and empowering.

Checkout our new bi-weekly podcast "In the Moment"

Every two weeks, hosts Steve Scher and Jini Palmer rewind through the recent past and fast-forward to the near future, catching you up on events you may have missed and offering a glimpse into the weeks ahead.

Don't miss our other series podcasts:

Town Hall is a gathering place where ideas are planted and movements grow. It’s where we come together as a community to listen and be heard—to ask and answer the big questions facing our city and our world. Annually, we present hundreds of artists and scholars, and collaborate with more than 150 grassroots groups in our self-produced programs. Rooted in the belief that we all deserve a voice, our programming reflects—and inspires—our region's best impulses: creativity, empathy, and innovation. With our podcast series, we take one more step towards making our programming accessible to all.

The political climate in our nation’s capitol may be tumultuous, but in the other Washington we’re electing progressive women with fresh ideas. Join local activist blog Civic Ventures for a live recording of their podcast The Other Washington as they interview newly elected Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, Seattle City Councilmember-elect Teresa Mosqueda, and State Senator-elect Manka Dhingra (45th LD). Together we learn about the issues that drive them and their experience as ringleaders of their campaigns.

Jenny Durkan is Seattle’s newly elected Mayor. She served under president Obama as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, and in 2009 she became the first openly gay U.S. Attorney in our country’s history.

Manka Dhingra is a newly elected Washington State senator serving the 45th legislative district. She previously served as Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and as an anti-domestic violence advocate and community leader.

Teresa Mosqueda served as the consumer advocate on the WA Affordable Care Act Exchange Board, and Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. She is Seattle’s recently elected City Council Position-At-Large 8.

Presented by Town Hall Seattle and Civic Ventures. To listen to The Other Washington follow them on iTunes or visit their website @

Recorded live at Hale’s Palladium by Town Hall Seattle on Monday, December 11, 2017.
