Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro has spent twenty-six years doing the grassroots advocacy she views as essential to fulfilling this country’s promise of opportunity for everyone. She argues against politicians who claim that the people of the United States would be better off without food stamps, Obamacare, and workplace protections, asserting that this outlook is not only wrong but dangerous to our country’s health. DeLauro joins us with her book The Least Among Us, an impassioned defense of social programs such as Social Security, food stamps, unemployment insurance, and Medicare. Motivated by a lifetime witnessing tragedies both structural and personal—from corporate indifference and government neglect to fatal industrial fires and childhood poverty—DeLauro shares a lesson about power, how it’s gained and how to wield it for the benefit of everyone.

Rosa L. DeLauro is the Congresswoman from Connecticut’s Third District and has served since 1991. DeLauro is a member of the House Democratic leadership and co-chair of the Steering and Policy Committee. She is the ranking member on the Labor, Health, Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee, and is a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
